In these two clips you can hear the new “PhatterBoy” Eb Flugelhorn.
I’d only had the new horn for three days so it was a bit of a risk to air it in public. I’m glad I did, though, as it has turned out to be an amazing instrument.
Next, here are a couple of trumpet and piano extracts:

Thanks, Wang. Yes, definitely in front of a real live audience. I hope you like the extra clips I put on for you.

How are you finding doubling trumpet and horn? I originally trained on horn and then switched to trumpet but I decided to have another go at horn recently. I find that it does affect my trumpet playing a bit. Any tips for managing the constant switching?
The phaterboy sounds much more flugel like than the tenor horn I showed you last year.

Hi Gordon,
Tips: well, what works for me is to keep switching, often. I think the point is to practise the jump from trumpet to horn and the jump from horn to trumpet. It’s all handled unconsciously pretty well if you feed it the right stuff.
Cheers,
Pip
