Eviction!!!!

(Please note: this has nothing whatever to do with hornplaying…..)

Well, almost eviction. I had a narrow escape.

I live in a very nice flat in West Norwood. I’ve been here for about 15 months and I’ve been really quite happy with it. Imagine my consternation when an eviction notice was delivered through the letterbox. It basically said I had to get out within three weeks and leave the place empty.

I contacted the landlady and she told me not to worry about it. She would deal with it and everything would be okay. A couple of weeks later another eviction letter arrived – this time in bigger and scarier print.

Again, I contacted the landlady and was again assured that it would all be alright. At this point I started to get very worried. Eventually, I contacted a solicitor, who looked into the situation and discovered that my landlady was not a real landlady at all, but actually a criminal fraudster who was illegally sub-letting the flat to me and pocketing the rent without passing any of it on to the actual owners! And I was definitely going to be hauled out onto the street by the bailiffs and everything of mine removed from the flat!

With the help of my solicitor and a jolly decent chap at the letting agency, Wazeem, I was able to take over the tenancy of the flat. So, the bailiffs came, at precisely the allotted time, said a friendly hello, repossessed the flat in the name of the letting agency, changed the locks, shook my hand and left. I then spent a happy hour with Wazeem, at his office, signing forms and handing over VAST amounts of cash – deposit, rent in advance and a load of other, smaller fees, none of which I wanted to quibble with.

After that I ran back to the flat and ran around it, shouting with joy at the top of my voice.

It’s my flat now, really, really – and I can stay!

And now I’m looking forward to taking the evil one to court….
